Sergeant Carl Manley and Chief Masse came before the Committee to discuss shift changes and scheduling at the Metropolis Police Department. They went over the proposed vs the current scheduling needing to contact the union to clarify some of the changes but the consensus was to proceed. The new shifts will be on a 12-hour schedule eliminating most of the overtime. This request is a labor request stated Chief Masse and will support for the change.

Chief Masse informed the Committee he added one Taser for the Abatement Officer and was offered 5 year free interest payments in the amount of $7,874.00.

Chief Masse brought before the Committee the following motion. He stated the two vehicles have decent mileage at a good price. The money will come from DUI funds and will be at a cost of $37,000.00. We will sell the cars we own giving the money back to the drug fund.

Chief Morris stated this was a budget item and our current breathing apparatus are ready to expire. We can purchase 4 on this yearís budget and 4 on the next. The cylinders needed are included in the amount.

Chief Masse asked for the next motion saying the funds are available in the training budget. The Illinois legislature has enacted new laws and now mandating additional training for officers in deadly force. This class will also train them on repairs to our side arms and rifles which is also needed.

Alderman Carrell shared his concerns for the purchase of the truck adding with our budget already using its reserves he is not for the following motion. The state is not paying out and he feels we have enough vehicles in the department already that can be used. We have 18 vehicles and a full staff of 14. The LESO program does not have trucks available Chief Masse stated already looking into it as an option. He also commented we have that as a budgeted item and have a locked in one time purchase at Ward Chevrolet. Chief Masse added there are things he allotted in his budget last year and has still not been purchased such as computers and radios. Alderman Short inquired if we have had any of the LESO vehicles long enough to be turned back in and was told yes that was being worked on now.
